Vietnam is the 4th largest aquaculture producer in the world and home to world’s most intensive outdoor aquaculture practice – Pangasius (500-900 ton/ha). Along with this Vannamei shrimp is also farmed at high intensity (200-300 ton/ha). Along with many positive outcomes of this intensification, there are several sustainability challenges. Coupled with climate change impacts those gets worsen. Managing waste nutrient can help addressing sustainability challenges both from mitigation and adaptation perspective as well as with multiple socio-economic benefits.

3R4CSA project will address one of the major sustainability challenges – waste nutrient recovery – from intensive aquaculture in the Lower Mekong Delta. The basic concept is to Reduce waste production, Recycle waste nutrient by bio-conversion to high value ingredient, and Reuse the recycled nutrients in aquaculture and agriculture.  The objectives of this project are to transform intensive farming to climate smart aquaculture for sustainability; to create awareness and capacity building of the young graduates on 3R approaches; and to support development of SMEs for waste recycling as employment and economic growth.

Implementation of the project will be coordinated by Ȳ in partnership with and  from France, and Can Tho University (), Research Institute for Aquaculture No. 2 () and Foreign Trade University () from Vietnam.
