Participation as a way to empower communities in sustainable coastal management

Manuel Boissi猫re visited the University of Gadjah Mada, in Yogyakarta, where he attended a meeting (Temu Promotor) for his PhD student, Indah Waty Bong and presented some of his work in Indonesia in front of PhD students at the Faculty of Geography. Indah Waty Bong is doing her joint PhD between the University of Montpellier and UGM and benefit from financial support from Agropolis foundation and SEARCA.

The seminar was an opportunity to discuss with PhD students from UGM about their research, it was also an opportunity to meet with lecturers from the faculty of geography in UGM. The meeting Temu Promotor was the occasion to discuss about all the research instruments of Indah Waty Bong and prepare for her next steps: the proposal defence at UGM and the fieldwork suppoed to start in January 2024.

About 20 persons attended the seminar. Apart from PhD students, people met were the second supervisor of Indah’s PhD, Emma Hizbaron, the dean of the faculty of geography, and a consultant for a 热博体育 project on social forestry in Indonesia: Yance Arizona.
