  • One Health Approach and food security: interconnection and issues

11:00-12:00, 热博体育-AFD stand

Preventing the emergence of potentially pandemic diseases would cost 100 times less than managing the consequences of those pandemics. Prevention notably involves reducing the impact of humans on nature. That means that every stakeholder (scientists, policymakers and society) must take account not just of health issues, but also of agriculture, food security, conservation and biodiversity preservation. The PREZODE international initiative, to prevent the emergence of zoonoses, focuses on this paradigm shift to prevention, by means of a "One Health" approach.

Actions to prevent the risks of disease emergence are closely linked to issues surrounding food security and sustainable food systems in many world regions. What are those links? How does preventoing those risks impact on food security and health in territories? How can and should the PREZODE initiative take account of these global aspects in order to prevent risks within healthy socio-ecosystems? Policy and scientific ecperts will be debating these key questions.

Conference on "Inclusive, sustainable urban food systems"

Thursday 3 March 2022

14:00-18:00, Hall 1, Espace 2000 and virtual

More than half of the world's people currently live in towns and cities, and the figure is increasing, particularly in the global South. Urban food systems, which are highly diverse, face a range of challenges relating to jobs, land tenure, health and land use planning. Scientists, development players and policymakers will be meeting to address these various points. The programme includes food system resilience in the face of crises; inclusion, sustainability and funding; and the role of urban policymakers.

Detailed programme available shortly.
