Joint Research Unit (UMR) ES Department
UMR ART-Dev's first priority is the human and social sciences, and it works on territorial boundary changes, from an economic, political and social point of view, by linking global and local dynamics. It focuses in particular on how the change process relies on the generation and utilization of both material and immaterial resources by various stakeholders.

The unit carries out comparative analyses of development pathways in North and South, in a range of geographical and sectoral contexts (rural and environmental, urban, etc). In particular, it works on Western, Central and Eastern Europe, but is also open to more southerly regions: Africa, Middle East, Mediterranean, Latin America, Asia, etc.

Its activity has an impact on social processes through the generation and dissemination of and through appraisals carried out at the request of international, national and local public institutions, NGOs and producers.
